Linda’s tea master name is Sōri 宗利 and she holds the rank of Sennin koushi, 2nd degree instructor, from the Urasenke Foundation 裏千家.

A Taste of Tea is a one-time introduction to Chado and instruction in the guest’s role as you participate in an informal tea ceremony. See current schedule.

Weekly Lessons
CURRENT SCHEDULE. In-person lessons are held at Linda’s home tea room in central Austin. Online lessons with Zoom are also available.
Lessons are 立礼棚 ryurei (special table and chairs) rather than seiza (kneeling on tatami).
Group lessons are 2 hours long; lessons for one person are about 1 hour.
Fee: Schedule 4 classes at a time, $100 total, includes matcha and confections at in-person lessons.

BEGINNER INTRODUCTION SERIES — Learn the informal Bonryaku Temae (tray method). Instruction includes: an introduction to the host and guest roles; how to select and care for utensils, the principles of Chado; and how Chado relates to Japanese culture and arts. Class size is one to four people. Schedule 4 weekly lessons at a time. Most people learn to do Bonryaku Temae for family and friends in 10-12 lessons.
BEYOND BEGINNER LESSONS (Nyumon level) — Ongoing, in-depth lessons in usucha and koicha temae (procedures for thick and thin matcha) and many variations for the changing seasons and special occasions. Class size is one or two people. Bi-weekly lessons are an option.
